A nice seva opportunity has come up to preserve the birth site of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura in Birnagar. He was born in Ulagram or Birnagar in his maternal grandfather’s place. Thakura was brought up as a young boy and did his primary schooling there.
A small temple is constructed in his birth place. Since back wall of the temple is very close to a deep pond, we are in danger of slowly losing this temple due to its receding in the pond.

Around five hundred years ago, at Panihati, Srila Raghunathadasa Goswami prepared and distributed chida dahi (a preparation made with chipped rice and yogurt and fruits) to thousands of devotees on the banks of Ganges on the order of Sri Nityananda Prabhu. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu personally appeared during this festival and showered mercy on His devotee, Raghunathadasa Goswami. Hundreds of devotees from ISKCON Mayapur every year visit Panihati to observe this festival and distribute Chida-dahi prasada in a grand way.
